Nacho Getters...The Pattern

Once upon a time in a town far to the north a boy had a car he called the Nacho Getter. Sadly the boy had to sell the Nacho Getter. A girl, who loved the boy very much knew how much he loved his Nacho Getter. One day the girl was given a golden opportunity to buy the boy an amazing gift. The Nacho Getter was for sale again! So she bought it for him and gave the boy back his beloved Nacho Getter and they all lived Happily Ever After.....(kind of a true story, The boy did/does love his Nacho Getter, He did have to sell it, The girl did buy it back for him, and honestly they do live Happily) Love all of you Mr and Mrs. Miller and Family :) So since Mr. Miller has his Nacho Getter, Mrs. Miller needed a Nacho Getter of her own.

Nacho Getter's
By Carmel Creager

Materials:
210 Yards of worsted weight yarn
Size 4 DPN's
Stitch Markers
Waste Yarn
Darning Needle

Abbreviations:
CO: Cast On
M1R: Make 1 Right: Increase: Lift bar between stitches from back to front and knit into the front of the loop.
M1L: Make 1 Left: Increase: Lift bar between stitches from Front to back and knit into the back of the loop.
K2Tog: Knit two stitches together
PM: Place Marker
SM: Slip Marker
K: Knit
P: Purl
MC: Main Color
CC: Contrasting Color
Garter Stitch in the Round:
Round 1: Purl
Round 2: Knit

Now the good part: How to take all the stuff above and turn it into a Fingerless Mitten.

CO 48 Stitches
Divide evenly onto 3 DPN's pm for beginning of round.
work 3 repeats of garter stitch so that when you are done with 6 rounds total of knitting and purling you have 3 ridges.
Next Round: K all stitches
Decrease Round: *K6, K2Tog* repeat all the way around
You now have 42 stitches on your needles.
Put 21 stitches on Needle 1
Put 11 stitches on Needles 2 & 3
Continue in stockinette (knit every round) till mitt measure 6" from cast on edge.
Begin Thumb Gusset Increase
Round 1: Knit across needle 1, K1 stitch on needle 2, pm, M1R, k1, M1, pm,  knit to end of round
Round 2: Knit all stitches, slipping markers as needed.
Continue these 2 rounds until you have 15 stitches between markers for thumb gusset.
Next: Knit to Marker, remove markers and slip 15 stitches for thumb onto waste yarn with a darning needle to be picked up and knit later. Using the backwards loop cast on (video found here ) cast on 1 stitch. Knit remaining stitches in round.
Knit 9 rounds plain
work 2 repeats of Garter Stitch Rounds.
knit 2 rows
add your CC color if you choose and knit 2 rounds
switch back to mc and knit 2 more rounds
Next:
Purl 1 round
knit 1 round
purl 1 round
bind off loosely.

Thumb:
Slip 15 live stitches onto your DPN's

Pick up 3 Stitches
knit 6 rounds plain pm for beginning of round
Next do 2 repeats of the garter stitch rounds (2 ridges)
Add cc and knit 2 rounds
Switch Back to mc and knit one round.
Next:
Purl 1 round
Knit 1 round
Purl 1 round
Bind off Loosely

Repeat for Second Mitten.
Because of how the thumb gusset is placed the mittens really are reversible and interchangeable.

Weave in all tails.

Tip:
If you have holes (loose stitches) where you picked up the 3 stitches for the thumb, just use the tails you are weaving in to tighten them up a bit and no one will know but you!

Hope you like the pattern.
Of course if there are any problems with it please contact me.

SSYC... My First Official Yarn Crawl...

It's true... I've never actually participated in a yarn crawl or LYS tour. When I worked at So Much Yarn I had the pleasure of working the weekend of the LYS Tour but I've never done it. Well, the SSYC, South Sound Yarn Crawl covers 9 shops that aren't included for whatever reason in the Seattle LYS Tour that covers around 25 shops in the area. Maybe they're too far off the beaten path. It's not because they aren't in Seattle because there are shops way way way out of town that are included in the Seattle LYS tour. Whatever the reason, it's not important. What is important is that Mary and I both took Friday off and hit the road. I caught the 7:15 Ferry to Kingston, Arrived at Mary's about 8:00. Mary and I have the same china. Mine came from my Grandmother, her's came from her mom. Tried making friends with her fluffy dog Mae. Someday she'll come to love me, for now I'll respect her tenative personality and love her fro...

Spring Cleaning = no VK Live

I don't get a cleaning bug often. I truly dislike it. I would rather knit than scrub a toilet or polish something... But it happens that I get the urge to purge (too much listening to the Top Gun soundtrack this weekend) and when the momentum is high and lasts three days I won't fight it... I can't. Plus I probably saved at least $250.00 by not going to a knitting expo! Have you ever done a big ruthless purge on your stuff? You can learn a lot about who you are or who you have been... 1. I apparently have an affection for lined notebooks and notepads considering I've counted 17 in my living room alone. 2. I easily have 50+ knitting books on my shelf and have only knit one pattern from one of them. 3. 2011 I was a grumpy snot at Christmas. So grumpy I didn't even open any Christmas cards. I didn't thrown them out either apparently... I'll open them later today. 4. My sister-in-law M gives me some pretty awesome gifts. Funny notebooks (o...

quirks, questions, and things best remembered......

1. Two bads never ever equal a better. 2. Muffins or Cupcakes I will always eat the top last. D thought it would be funny one time to teach me a lesson regarding this little nuance of my behavior, so at a party he sees my cupcake top sitting on my plate and he walks by and quick stuffs it in his mouth. He said it was to teach me a lesson, but I think we all know who learned a lesson that night. 3. While it is always to have good oral hygiene habits for both man and beast alike I would like to strongly caution you against keeping the beasts tooth paste next to your own toothpaste. Trust me when I say the beast will get much more enjoyment from your toothpaste gracing his brushes bristles than you will trying to do a massive mouthwash flush of poultry flavored peppermint paste. Learn from my mistake...... 4. I always feel sorry for people who I either happen to be talking to or emailing at the moment my medication kicks in. It can't be fun, but you all are such good sports about it. ...
