Day 4: My Earliest Childhood Memory

The older I get the harder it is to remember that far back but I have one very distinct memory.

I don't know exactly how old I was but I do know it was terrifying.

The family was spending the day on Vashon Island at my God Parents family home.
We were down exploring the beach along the Puget Sound, wading in the water, looking for crabs and starfish.

I don't think I was at it long when a crab found me.
I must have screamed bloody murder.
I remember being swooped up by my mom.
I remember her running me up the stairs from the beach to the house.
It was a really long flight of stairs.
Scared moms with bleeding kids run really fast.
I remember there being a lot of blood.

A lot of blood.

Who knew a big toe could bleed so much.

I don't know how big the crab was that nailed me that day but I do know that they have sharp pincers.

Sharp!

So much blood. I just remember all the blood covering Tom and Barb's sink and vanity in the bathroom.

I think a solid bandage fixed me right up.

So that's my gruesome earliest childhood memory.

I'm not surprised that the earliest memory is traumatic.
Trauma imprints something on our brains that reminds you 'next time you go wading in the water looking for crabs, keep your darn shoes on'

Safe to say it was a long time before I put my feet back in the water.

That all being said, I do love a crab dinner. They are delicious. Especially when you pull them out and boil them right on the beach.

Just watch your toes when you're wading in the Sound.

My memories of this kids and I in Puget Sound was wearing these things called aqua socks! The beaches on the Puget sound can be very rocky and full of barnacles. We bought these every year at the Rite Aid. They were cheap, but crucial!!

The 'To-Do' list...

and by 'to-do' list I mean 'to-knit' list. I'm really really trying to get on track with this list and stay deeply focused. It has helped that I have successfully removed all yarn from the living room and into Mr. Brown's Yarn shop on the second floor. Except for the fact that I went in there the other day with a shopping bag and loaded up. Currently in the sidelines to be finished 1. Ledge Trail Vest 2. Twiggy for me 3. 70 Yard Mitt for my other hand Finished those bad boys last night! this is what happens when you use the 10s burst hands free option on your iphone and you're holding said phone with your chinny chin chin. On the List: 1. Twiggy for a Christmas gift 2. Iris the Gourmet Monster but since it's for a boy I'm calling it Orvil. 3. Great White Shart Shark 4. Bosco - for me 5. Stillhouse Vest - for me 6. Woodsy - for me 7. Three Seahawk themed hats as gifts. 8. Gifts for friends... and on and on and on If you...

Finished Object

I'm not good at keeping surprises a secret...I get so excited that I usually blow it. Well not this time... I knit this sweater for Bump and had the buttons custom madefor it by Buttons by Robin, a wonderful shop on Etsy... She used a photo of Rupert that I emailed her...Rupert is their (Bump, C & M's) family dog... I couldn't post a photo until they had received the sweater which arrived on their doorstep last night... Oh how I wish I could have been there when they got it! It turned out amazing! Pattern: Baby Sophisticate Yarn: Big tweedy Cashmere (lucky boy) Please check out Robin's shop on Etsy I know you'll find buttons you love and she does amazing work!

W.I.P

Bears Barn Owl. We had a hockey game last night and while I'm normally so wrapped up in the game that I don't have time to knit, that was not the case last night. Silvertips have had a rough go and the Red Deer Rebels really wolloped them last night. So I knit. I ate some dingleberries. Delicious. and I knit some more. I have a feeling I'll be finishing this bad boy up by tomorrow and he'll be the star of the retreat. Isn't his color wonderful?
