rough rough night

Mr. Brown got home about 3:30 yesterday, still pretty sedated.
Well, that wore off about 12:45 last night and he freaked out trying to rub and scratch his eye...
I popped a few Benadryl in him and then laid down on the floor to keep him restrained calm until he fell asleep.

fast forward

3:25 a.m. Freak out number two where I launched myself from the bed and tackled him to the ground.
Took him outside, fed them both their breakfast (it's the normal feeding time for them during the week and they like to keep a tight schedule) gave him his pain meds, more Benadryl, followed by more of me sleeping on his bed with him holding his head and legs so he wouldn't damage his eye...

he didn't settle this time.

these procedures are incredibly painful for dogs and the cones of shame cause Mr. B more anxiety than I can even describe. This soft one doesn't seem to be a problem for him which I'm grateful for, but between the hours of 3:45 and 6:45 there was pacing, some not nice words said, snuggles, restraining, and finally at about 5:30 some *crate time because honestly, we both don't fit on his Costco dog bed nor do I want to...

He spent the next hour grunting in his crate while I tried to bury myself in the bed.

7:00 a.m. I let him outside and then we went back to bed... only when D was ready to go out to breakfast did he finally fall asleep...

Our first boxer had an eye injury similar to this 12 years ago and we used a homeopathic sleep aid to keep her calm... I bought more of it this morning and it's doing the trick.

According to WBR he'll be feeling better in about 24 hours... the first 24 are horrible and I can confirm that... my goal is to keep him calm and drugged for the rest of the day and till it's healed up hopefully...

Thank goodness for weekends when I can stay home and take care of him...

*I know there are people out there who are against crating dogs, that it's cruel and they aren't meant to be caged. I can promise you that my dogs do not feel that their crates are cages, they are their safe place. They go in on their own and are never put in there for punishment. It's the safest place for them, otherwise they'd just be tempted to get into things they aren't supposed to.

Crates are meant to be used as you are using them. Our current dog hated the hard side crate but doesn't mind her soft side travel crate. It is important especially for a large dog in Mr. Brown's situation to use a crate, in throwing himself around he could really injure himself or accidentally you. Hang in there they hate anything wrong with any body part they cannot soothe themselves.

Thank you for your wonderful comment... It's very hard for me to see them hurting, harder because I can't make it all go away... Hopefully the combo of pain pills and homeopathic sleep aids will give him a good nights rest...

And you too. I understand, we once stayed up all night taking turns watching a dog breathe, so I get it.And when they hurt and you can't do anything it hurts you just as bad.

SSYC... My First Official Yarn Crawl...

It's true... I've never actually participated in a yarn crawl or LYS tour. When I worked at So Much Yarn I had the pleasure of working the weekend of the LYS Tour but I've never done it. Well, the SSYC, South Sound Yarn Crawl covers 9 shops that aren't included for whatever reason in the Seattle LYS Tour that covers around 25 shops in the area. Maybe they're too far off the beaten path. It's not because they aren't in Seattle because there are shops way way way out of town that are included in the Seattle LYS tour. Whatever the reason, it's not important. What is important is that Mary and I both took Friday off and hit the road. I caught the 7:15 Ferry to Kingston, Arrived at Mary's about 8:00. Mary and I have the same china. Mine came from my Grandmother, her's came from her mom. Tried making friends with her fluffy dog Mae. Someday she'll come to love me, for now I'll respect her tenative personality and love her fro...

Remembering...

I don't know what karmic cosmic angels were flitting around today but they led me to the coffee aisle at the grocery store. More specifically it led me to the international moments. Which led me to thoughts of my grandmother. I loved her. I knew deep in my bones that she loved me. Grandma loved her International Moments coffees. Just smelling them. Holding the tin (though it's different now) Brings back memories of being with my grandma. She said these were her special treat and she'd make one for me to. Grandma made the best fresh blackberry pie. I know they were fresh because when she came to visit us in Bellevue she'd make us help her pick blackberries. She was the master of Christmas cookies, chocolate chip cookies and raspberry freezer jam. I make freezer jam from time to time and it reminds me of summer visits to Boise. Helping grandma in her garden, making sun tea, and smelling her roses. Sometimes, I buy a tin of Interna...
