It's Starting....

The fall weather is coming. There are signs of it every where and since summer just arrived a few weeks ago I don't think anyone is ready for it, except maybe the kids who are back in school, nice weather is such a tease when you are stuck in a classroom all day long.
I'm coming right along on my Cream and Sugar Cowl by Alana Dakos and yesterday I was complaining about how the pattern tells you to use a 16 inch circular needle...For 252 stitches? That's CRAZY I told Marcy, Do you know how bunched up it was on the needles? So I did what any amazingly intelligent knitter would do, I used a 24 inch circular needle. I thought I was brilliant and scoffed at the pattern line that said use a 16 inch. I should have known better. Once again the pattern proved me to be absolutely crazy...I did my first cable row and those cables sucked those stitches so tightly together on that circ you'd think I was trying to tear them apart instead of hold them together...So there I was last night after we returned from dinner on Camano Island with D's mom, our friend and her two daughters...10:30 at night watching Criminal Minds and transfering my stitches from a 24 inch circular to a 16 inch circular berating myself for being such an untrusting idiot and bragging about how smart I was before...
Of all the designers who's patterns I question why would I question Alana's? Her patterns are perfectl. They are beautifully written. If it said you had to run to the moon and back to make the pattern work right you can bet there's a reason for it so you better contact NASA and get that space program back up and running.....*note to Alana: please don't ever make that an instruction in your patterns, I'm afraid I won't be able to fulfill it being as claustrophobic as I tend to be a space shuttle would probably send me right into the throws of a hyperventilating panic attack*.

Lesson of the day: Never Question the needle length the designer tells you. There's a GD good reason for it and it will save you a lot of pain (tight stitches) in the end!
Happy Wednesday!

Gah! I laughed at the NASA comment. : )

You know, you could have knitted the sts from the longer needle to the shorter one instead of moving them one by one... : )

SSYC... My First Official Yarn Crawl...

It's true... I've never actually participated in a yarn crawl or LYS tour. When I worked at So Much Yarn I had the pleasure of working the weekend of the LYS Tour but I've never done it. Well, the SSYC, South Sound Yarn Crawl covers 9 shops that aren't included for whatever reason in the Seattle LYS Tour that covers around 25 shops in the area. Maybe they're too far off the beaten path. It's not because they aren't in Seattle because there are shops way way way out of town that are included in the Seattle LYS tour. Whatever the reason, it's not important. What is important is that Mary and I both took Friday off and hit the road. I caught the 7:15 Ferry to Kingston, Arrived at Mary's about 8:00. Mary and I have the same china. Mine came from my Grandmother, her's came from her mom. Tried making friends with her fluffy dog Mae. Someday she'll come to love me, for now I'll respect her tenative personality and love her fro...

Spring Cleaning = no VK Live

I don't get a cleaning bug often. I truly dislike it. I would rather knit than scrub a toilet or polish something... But it happens that I get the urge to purge (too much listening to the Top Gun soundtrack this weekend) and when the momentum is high and lasts three days I won't fight it... I can't. Plus I probably saved at least $250.00 by not going to a knitting expo! Have you ever done a big ruthless purge on your stuff? You can learn a lot about who you are or who you have been... 1. I apparently have an affection for lined notebooks and notepads considering I've counted 17 in my living room alone. 2. I easily have 50+ knitting books on my shelf and have only knit one pattern from one of them. 3. 2011 I was a grumpy snot at Christmas. So grumpy I didn't even open any Christmas cards. I didn't thrown them out either apparently... I'll open them later today. 4. My sister-in-law M gives me some pretty awesome gifts. Funny notebooks (o...

quirks, questions, and things best remembered......

1. Two bads never ever equal a better. 2. Muffins or Cupcakes I will always eat the top last. D thought it would be funny one time to teach me a lesson regarding this little nuance of my behavior, so at a party he sees my cupcake top sitting on my plate and he walks by and quick stuffs it in his mouth. He said it was to teach me a lesson, but I think we all know who learned a lesson that night. 3. While it is always to have good oral hygiene habits for both man and beast alike I would like to strongly caution you against keeping the beasts tooth paste next to your own toothpaste. Trust me when I say the beast will get much more enjoyment from your toothpaste gracing his brushes bristles than you will trying to do a massive mouthwash flush of poultry flavored peppermint paste. Learn from my mistake...... 4. I always feel sorry for people who I either happen to be talking to or emailing at the moment my medication kicks in. It can't be fun, but you all are such good sports about it. ...
