The Thanksgiving Preamble to the 24 Days of Knitting...

Thanksgiving at the Beach... so so many years ago

Thanksgiving is next week...

NEXT WEEK PEOPLE.

Gobble Gobble Gobble your happy little knitterly hearts to tables full of family & friends.
I'll be jetting by night across the country to be delivered to my mom's front door ready to fire up her oven and cook her and G some amazing dinners, including Thanksgiving.

Now onto the important stuff.

What the heck is everyone going to be knitting on Thanksgiving?

If you are like me, and there has to be a few of you. You know there is a lot of down time on Thanksgiving.

Some of you eat an early dinner.
Some of you a later dinner.
Depending on familial obligations some of you eat two dinners...

uggh you must sleep like the dead after two turkey dinners.

What I'm trying to get at is, maybe in that down time, if you aren't napping, or crying over the appetizer that got torched in the oven, or possibly secretly drinking in the kitchen because Aunt Myrtle is coming over and she still pinches your cheeks as if you were three years old, and I'm not referring to the ones on your face. In the downtime, or when you are hiding from Aunt Myrtle in the pantry, I have four patterns for you to choose from to knit and maintain and certain semblance of sanity and the illusion that you are a full grown adult who manages her feelings beautifully.

I've had many an emotional breakdowns during family gatherings. Cocktails make them better.

I'm not going to tell you what the patterns are right now, but I am going to give you yarn weight, suggestions and yardage so you can be ready.

You will need 250 yards of worsted weight yarn. (if you are feeling like a finishing queen better make it 500 so you can do both)

I would suggest using a solid color or a slightly subtly variegated solid like a Malibrigo, Cascade 220 Paints, Dream in Color Class, or Madelinetosh. There is cabling & design in both patterns that could get lost in anything crazy.

If you read between the lines you now know you'll need a cable needle.

The other pattern uses up those odd bits and ends of yarn that you have lying around from previous finished objects.

So as we are all furiously planning our menu's and solidifying our travel plans, don't forget a stop at your lys for the perfect yarn for a project you don't know anything about. Stash it in the pantry next to your mason jar of wine and when the going gets rough, the rough get knitting.

The Thanksgiving Preamble to Christmas will be posted on 11/25/2015 so just in case you don't make it to the store, you'll have the idea on Wednesday when shops should still be open to help you out.

Maybe if Aunt Myrtle behaves herself she'll go home with a treat.

SSYC... My First Official Yarn Crawl...

It's true... I've never actually participated in a yarn crawl or LYS tour. When I worked at So Much Yarn I had the pleasure of working the weekend of the LYS Tour but I've never done it. Well, the SSYC, South Sound Yarn Crawl covers 9 shops that aren't included for whatever reason in the Seattle LYS Tour that covers around 25 shops in the area. Maybe they're too far off the beaten path. It's not because they aren't in Seattle because there are shops way way way out of town that are included in the Seattle LYS tour. Whatever the reason, it's not important. What is important is that Mary and I both took Friday off and hit the road. I caught the 7:15 Ferry to Kingston, Arrived at Mary's about 8:00. Mary and I have the same china. Mine came from my Grandmother, her's came from her mom. Tried making friends with her fluffy dog Mae. Someday she'll come to love me, for now I'll respect her tenative personality and love her fro...

The 'To-Do' list...

and by 'to-do' list I mean 'to-knit' list. I'm really really trying to get on track with this list and stay deeply focused. It has helped that I have successfully removed all yarn from the living room and into Mr. Brown's Yarn shop on the second floor. Except for the fact that I went in there the other day with a shopping bag and loaded up. Currently in the sidelines to be finished 1. Ledge Trail Vest 2. Twiggy for me 3. 70 Yard Mitt for my other hand Finished those bad boys last night! this is what happens when you use the 10s burst hands free option on your iphone and you're holding said phone with your chinny chin chin. On the List: 1. Twiggy for a Christmas gift 2. Iris the Gourmet Monster but since it's for a boy I'm calling it Orvil. 3. Great White Shart Shark 4. Bosco - for me 5. Stillhouse Vest - for me 6. Woodsy - for me 7. Three Seahawk themed hats as gifts. 8. Gifts for friends... and on and on and on If you...

I could have used another week...

Last week was wonderful... D and I traveled to Scottsdale, AZ to spend time with Mom and G as well as attend some Cactus League Spring Training Baseball. The weather was amazing (after Sunday and Monday's rain storms) High 80's the rest of the week, and sun sun sun and more sun... Waking up in the morning and being able to lounge on the patio with my coffee. Wearing shorts for a week... and finally... Finally I got to see a cactus bloom! We always come to early in the season for it and it bums me out, but not this time...Nope, this time I got to see it. And it was wonderful more pictures to come as well as a 'Favorite Things' post on what I love to do when I am there...
